| Self Portrait: March 22 Torn Jeans |
It helped that I was not over weight when I got pregnant. During pregnancy, I went for long walks so I could get in some exercise. Breast feeding is not only good for your children (the best there is and as nature intended), it helps melt the pounds away. Really.
After a few months, it's back to good habits of proper exercise and diet. It helps having to run around all days after the kids as well.
My current physique is lean and toned. It is not easy for me to achieve. Just like everyone, It takes very little time to blow up like a whale: sitting on the couch all day, stuffing my face with fatty foods and sodas. My body is wired to be overweight - just like my mother and siblings.
The older one gets, the more careful one has to be on the joints. There are more aches now. I go to the gym five out of seven days. I make a conscious effort not to overeat (particularly fast foods, desserts and sodas).
It really helps that I like working out. It feels good to have tired, achy muscles at the end of the day - helps me fall asleep at night. There's also a positive feed back loop: the more in shape I get, the more I like the way I look; and the healthier and stronger I feel; so it encourages me to go back.
Looks matter to me, just like everyone else. The difference about me lies in not caring how others judge me for my looks (hence I can go around with gray hair because I don't give a fuck what they think; or I can wear mismatched socks or out-of-fashion clothes) but how I judge myself to look. If I think I rock in hole-ridden jeans, then that's what I'm wearing. I dress to amuse and please myself. That's the nice thing about being ordinary - no one gives a shit.

agreed !!
it sucks though, that the older I get - the harder it is to stay toned...
You look great Charlie! An inspiration for the rest of us in our 40s. I just want to be able to climb the 14ers here in Colorado without dying at 13,000 ft. Happens every time. Good tone and strength would be a bonus!
