What a great question! I do believe you are half way there!
A brainy person (girls included) is articulate - they know how to express themselves. It's not necessarily that they are good public speakers or even good writers; it depends on which modality they are most comfortable expressing themselves. Perhaps they are artistic (express themselves in poems or painting or sculptures). Perhaps they are musicians.
A brainy person is a good problem solver: identifying a problem, analyzing data, generating solutions, decision making, following through your solutions; and verifying what works and doesn't work.
A brainy person can think critically. I don't mean simply memorizing information spoon fed to you and then regurgitating it back. It means gathering your information on your own (often questioning the source and its biases). Interpreting the information using logic and well reasoned analysis (not based on emotions). Examining or acknowledging one's own biases (self awareness). Keeping an open mind; ready to revisit your conclusions, if necessary. Finally developing good habit of mind.

that's exactly what I was thinking before I read the entire post.
a "brainy" person can speak correctly, finish a thought, and think through an idea without giving up...
